Test Procedure of Rubbing Fastness Test Using JIS Standard Crockmeter

JIS Standard Crockmeter (rubbing fastness tester) is suitable for testing the rubbing fastness of various dyed fiber products. This article guide you to a color fastness to rubbing test procedure using DaRong’s JIS standard Crockmeter.

Standards: JIS L0801, JIS L0823, JIS L0849

Color Fastness to Rubbing Test Procedure

  1. Connect the instrument to the power supply and turn on the power switch to initialize the instrument.
  2. Tightly wrap a 6cm x 6cm piece of starch-free white cotton cloth around the cylinder on the sliding plate.
  3. Secure the sample firmly on the decolorization test table.
  4. For dry tests, wrap the weight hammer tightly with dry white fine cloth. For wet tests, soak the bleached fine cloth in distilled water, then squeeze out the water so that it retains 175-200% of its original weight.
  5. Set the motor speed to 30 on the human-machine interface. If the speed is not up to standard, perform compensation operations.
  6. Choose the working mode as either timing or counting, and input the corresponding time or number of cycles.
  7. Press the start button to make the rubbing tester perform 30 reciprocal motions per minute within a 10cm range.
  8. After each test, click the reset button for the current time or value to prepare for the next test.
  9. If you need to pause the test during operation, press the pause button. Then you can press the continue button to resume the test or the reset button to end the current test and reset the instrument.
  10. Before each experiment, reset the “actual number of times” and “actual time” to avoid malfunction of the instrument.

Crockmeter Maintenance and Care

  1. Keep the instrument clean and well-maintained, and apply lubricant to the guide rod promptly.
  2. Regularly calibrate the instrument to ensure accurate measurement values.
  3. Non-professional maintenance and calibration personnel are not allowed to disassemble the instrument. After each disassembly and repair, a performance calibration must be conducted to avoid instrument inaccuracies.
  4. In case of a sudden fault during operation, cut off the power supply immediately. Only after troubleshooting should the power be turned back on.
  5. The instrument must be reliably grounded to prevent significant interference signals due to the lack of grounding measures.
