Surface Ignition in Flammability Testing
In this article, we will demonstrate a lab procedure of the flammability test, also called textile burn test: surface ignition using DaRong’s YG(B)815CV Flammability Tester
In this video demonstration, we will show how to use the YGB815CV Fabric Flammability Tester to conduct surface ignition.
The sample size is 560 mm by 170 mm, with three specimens prepared in both the warp and weft directions. The specimens are perforated according to the template.
Specimen Mounting:
Mount the specimen flat and securely onto the specimen holder. According to the standard, install three indicator threads. Ensure the threads are under proper tension and aligned accurately with the specimen.
Instrument Operation:
Turn on the power switch. On the operation interface, select the testing standard and choose “surface ignition.”
Turn on the gas valve, click “Ignite,” then click “Timer” to begin the 2-minute preheating. When preheating ends, click “Next.” Set the ignition time to 10 seconds and adjust the flame height using the control knob.
Click “Start” to begin the test. The specimen will be ignited for 10 seconds. The instrument will automatically record the time from ignition to when each of the three indicator threads is severed by the flame.
Once the test is complete, click “Test Results” to view the data. Repeat the same procedure for the remaining specimens and record the test data accordingly.
