The electrostatic discharge tester is designed to monitor the material’s ability to reduce the electrostatic charges from the material’s surface.

It has an important use case where electrostatic discharge is focused because it can create risks for the safety of semiconductors and the manufacturing of protective clothing.

It is widely used in textile industries to measure the static decay time for medical textiles and nonwoven fabrics. The ESD Attenuation Analyzer has clamps on top and bottom. The specimen is placed straightly without any crease in the clamps.

After that, a high–voltage electrostatic charge is applied to the fabric specimen. The instrument measures the time it takes for the charge to dissipate from the material’s surface to a standard level; this time is called electrostatic attenuation time.

The purpose of the test is to stop the build-up of electrostatic charge on the surface of the material because ESCs attract dust and can cause sparks in certain environmental conditions.
