Preparation of Testing Specimen for ISO 105 E02

  • Condition the testing specimen in a conditioning chamber or conditioning maintained controlled temperature and humidity.
  • Cut the testing specimen and a multifiber of 40mm x 100 mm or 4 cm x 100 cm and stitch the multifiber and testing specimen from the shorter side following ISO 105-A01.

Preparation of Artificial Sea Water Solution

Take 30 g sodium chloride (NaCl) and 5 g magnesium chloride (MgCl2) in a volumetric flask of 1000 ml. Dissolve both chemicals in grade 3 distilled water and make up the volume to 1000 ml. Your solution is ready to test ISO 105 E02, colourfastness to sea water.

ISO 105 E02 Procedure

  • Take artificial sea water solution prepared for ISO 105 E02, colourfastness to sea water in a petri dish.
  • Dip the testing specimen stitched with multifiber, in ISO 105 E02 solution at room temperature.
  • Remove the testing specimen and keep it on the acrylic ( or Glass ) plate of the perspirometer. The pressure/weight of the perspirometer weight should be 12.5 kPa.
  • Keep the perspirometer in the Oven maintained at 37 ± 2degree Celsius for 04 hours.
  • After treatment in the oven, dry the testing specimen in an incubator below 60 degrees celsius.
  • Asses the colour change of the testing specimen and staining of the multifiber with the help of gray scale of shade change and staining.

Assessment of ISO 105 E02

There are two methods of assessment of ISO 105 E02, colour fastness to sea water known as assessment with the help of spectrophotometer and assessment with the help of grey scale. A spectrophotometer is an instrument which produces the rating of both shade change and staining. Two types of grey scales, the grayscale for color change and the grey scale of staining are used to assess the color change and staining.
