How to Perform ASTM D4964 Cyclic Stretch and Recovery Test Using a Tensile Tester

In this article, we will demonstrate a lab procedure to conduct ASTM D4964 Cyclic Stretch and Recovery Test using DaRong’s YG(B)026HC

The following is a demonstration of the YG(B)026HC Electronic Fabric Strength Tester. This test is conducted in accordance with ASTM D4964 – Standard Test Method for Tension and Elongation of Elastic Fabrics.

Switch on the power on this tensile strength machine.

Launch the testing software, connect to the instrument, and create a new test file.

Select the appropriate test method.

Set the test parameters according to the standard and customer requirements, including number of cycles, load range, grips, test speed, force unit, maximum load, number of cycles, specimen circumference, and customer-specified elongation percentage.

Once the settings are configured, save and confirm.

Measure the initial gauge length, from the top of the upper pin to the bottom of the lower pin.

In the system settings, input the actual measured gauge length under “gauge length settings”, then confirm and exit.

Click “reset” and the instrument will automatically adjust to the required gauge length.

Click “tare” and perform calibration.

Prepare the specimen. The specimen dimensions are 75 mm × 350 mm, with five warp and five weft samples. According to the standard, sew the specimen into a ring with a 10-inch circumference.

Mount the specimen on the clamps, ensuring the fabric surface is flat and free of wrinkles. Position the seam at the center of the gauge length.

Click “start” to begin the test.

After the first test result is obtained, repeat the procedure for the remaining specimens.

Once all tests are complete, export the test report from the software.

This test follows ASTM D4964.
